If you are doing development for Shopify or want a test site to experiment with, you can create a free test site. There is no way to run Shopify locally on your machine so you would need to create the test site using Shopify. Sign up for a free account here( https://www.shopify.com/partners) . The partner account is free and open for all, you can create as many test sites as you like using the partner account. Test sites can never become live sites so be careful to only create sites you do not intend to make live down the road.

Once the test site is created, you need to get the theme from your existing store transferred over to the test site. The best way to do this is to use a textmate bundle available here (https://github.com/meeech/shopify.tmbundle) if you have a Mac. If you do not have a Mac, then you would have to do an export and import of the theme following instruction here(https://docs.shopify.com/support/your-website/themes/can-i-download-and-upload-a-theme).

After you have all the files from the theme, set up your textmate to be able to upload the theme to a shopify test store((https://docs.shopify.com/support/your-website/themes/can-i-use-shopify-textmate-bundle)) .
If you do not have Textmate, you would need to manually upload the theme every time.
